Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka is home to more than 15 million people. Often considered one of most densely populated places in the world, the city has changed drastically due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Bangladesh, 56 people have been tested positive and six have died due to COVID-19, as per April 3. The number of infections remains low, some say, because of a dearth of testing.
In response to the virus, the Bangladeshi government has declared a general shutdown up to April 11.
The shutdown has forced residents to go on self-isolation at home and has triggered a mad-rush of internal migrants from the city to the countryside.
The situation has created suffering for poor and low-income people who have lost work and income.
The city has now taken a deserted look — there’s no overcrowding, no traffic jams and there has been a drastic drop in pollution.
