Watch: Vatican updates Church’s general liturgical calendar

The Congregation for Divine Worship — the Vatican office in charge of all liturgical matters — has added the memorial of Sts. Martha, Mary and Lazarus to the General Roman Calendar.

It will be celebrated July 29.

Before, this day commemorated Martha alone says this video report above from Rome Reports.

As explained in the video the memorial must now appear on all calendars and liturgical books for Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours.

“The Holy See received various petitions to celebrate these three siblings on the same day,” said Father Corrado Maggioni, undersecretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship, in the video. “They offer a common witness of the Gospel message, and they were Jesus’ friends.”

The report said that this change was done because previously some people mistakenly thought that Mary Magdalene and Mary the sister of Lazarus were the same person. Other celebrations have been added to the calendar, see the video for more on that.
