Watch: On Jan. 22, Pope Francis’ pontificate surpasses Benedict XVI’s in duration

Pope Benedict XVI was elected on April 19, 2005 – some 17 days after the death of Pope St. John Paul II.

Seven years, 10 months and 9 days later he retired and then Pope Francis was elected nearly two weeks later on March 13, 2013.
