A prayer on the day of The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God

Once upon a time, a young Jewish woman bore a son who would bring the Good News that a God will never leave anyone behind, challenging an occupied nation to transform itself and to do the same.

Today, let us allow our respect and love for this great woman Mary to enkindle in us the desire to continue the mission of her son whom we now worship as our Lord and Savior.

Hail Mary, bearer of God, we humbly beseech you to bring us the Spirit that we may intend to bring the same Spirit to the lost and the forsaken!

The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God is a feast day of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the aspect of her motherhood of Jesus Christ, whom Christians see as the Lord, Son of God. It is celebrated by the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church on Jan. 1, the Octave (8th) day of Christmastide.
