Archbishop Sebastian Shaw of Pakistan has initiated a project to help 20 former prisoners open their own businesses with the support of Aid to the Church in Need.
The former prisoners were accused of being involved in the murder of two Muslims during a protest following the Easter suicide attack on March 15, 2015.
The attack hit two churches in Youhanabad, killing 27 people and injuring more than 70 others. Several people were later arrested by the police.
“Some were released after long negotiations, but two died in prison,” said the archbishop in an article published by AsiaNews.
“We thought about putting them in business after the release so that they can earn some money and support their families,” he added.
